Shards

by on Nov.19, 2021, under Photography

In preparation for sunset I wanted to move down to the waters edge and shoot across the shards of rock across to this glass shard sticking up into the sky

Unfortunately the scale of the construction works occurring here precludes a lot of what I had intended on shooting. That and the fact that sunset was turning out to be less than hoped. We’d lost all the high and mid cloud overhead and just had too much low cloud out to the west killing all chance of some colour

Still I was here so… I’d walked to the end of the fenceline that extended right along the path which surrounds the Barangaroo reserve parklands. Then “accidentally” worked my way around the end so I could access the rocks and water

This one taken a few minutes after sunset. With the Kase Filters 6 Stop (ND64) ND Filter (to drag out the shutter to a few minutes to flatten the water). Along with a 3 Stop (0.9) Soft Grad (to hold down the sky) and the CPL (to see through the water to the stones below)

All Roads

by on Nov.18, 2021, under Photography

I’d planned this shot on Google Maps. The sweeping curvy path leading towards the new funky glass Crown Tower at Barangaroo. All shot during a long exposure (to streak the clouds and remove any distractions like people and bikes on the path)

First time using my new Kase Filters 10 Stop (ND1000) ND Filter (stacked with their CPL and 3 Stop (0.9) Soft Grad Filter)

The breeze was swift and the clouds were moving nicely (west to east – tho I probably would have preferred towards or away from me). If anything there was too much cloud (now) and then nowhere near enough higher cloud during sunset later… sigh

Alas what I hadn’t counted on was all the construction going on here. I hadn’t been down to Barangaroo in probably 2 years. So the replacement of the outer half of the path along with the construction fence running the length of the whole path and park was well disappointing. It also blocked easy access to the waters edge which was where I was planning to go next for sunset

Wavy Crashy

by on Nov.17, 2021, under Photography

I believe this is the infamous wavy crashy moment immediately before Gerry’s complaint about “damp toes” at the end of this shoot

Although as you can see for me it resulted in a little more than wet feet. Put it this way… if I’d brought a spare top I would have changed when I got back to the car

I figure if your camera isn’t dripping with water by the end of a seascape shoot then you havn’t really been trying hard enough :). What was it that the great photojournalist Robert Capa said – “If your pictures aren’t good enough, you aren’t close enough”

The Milk Soup

Some more long exposure goodness. Sorta looks like the prehistoric rock rising out of this primordial ooze 🙂

An even longer exposure than yesterdays image. This time during a break in the heavy waves allowing us to see the greenery below
