Vivid House

Do yourself a favour. If you are or are thinking of visiting Vivid Sydney; get yourself down to Vivid House in Darling Quarter at the eastern edge of Tumbalong Park next to the ICC

Imagine if you will, that you were going to build the most INSANE home theatre setup…

Well you’d put in a whole wall TV – obviously; except in this instance you’d make the LED screen over 5 metres tall and 10 metres wide. Of course you wouldn’t stop there – you do it on all four walls of the room so you’re completely surrounded! Then you’d put a bunch of projectors on the ceiling so they’d project across the whole floor as well. Next you’d put computer controlled motion lighting systems… well… everywhere – dozens and dozens of systems above and also hanging from the ceiling, around the bottom of the walls, hell under and coming up from the floor. Smoke machines in the floor – hell yes – tick. The most kick ass sound system with dozens and dozens of speakers… again everywhere including under the floor – tick 🙂

If you want the full experience I’d suggest Progressum as my pick – it’s dark, moody and all encompassing, and uses the space and technology to it’s fullest

If rave, techno and house music party is your scene then Temple of Joy fits the bill. This will be a kids favourite too with it’s bright colours, shapes and action

Three five minute sequences form part of Floating World

Sub-Aqua – Ancient Worlds explores an ancient underworld; Agora also gives you a mysterious marine underwater experience

Lastly Soup provides an awesome artistic treat – another of my personal favourites

Yarrkalpa

Each year an internationally-renowned artist is commissioned to create an original artwork for projection onto the Sydney Opera House that captures the spirit of the iconic landmark recognised as the cultural epicentre of Australia

Known as Lighting of the Sails, this year Sydney-based creative technologists Curiious will bring to life the stunning Martumili collective painting Yarrkalpa – Hunting Ground, Parnngurr Area 2013 across the spectacular sails, extending the Martu Artists’ stories beyond the walls of a gallery

Yarrkalpa – Hunting Ground is a visually striking and complex painting, brimming with vibrant colour and energy, which depicts the Parnngurr community and surrounding landscape. It represents an intimate connection with country, cataloguing seasons, traditional burning practices and regrowth, hunting and resources, as well as abstracted ancestral stories

For these shots I was positioned directly inbetween the four projector bunkers – so I’ve got about half a dozen of the projectors immediately to my left and right. Great if you want to have the beams seen in the frame. Probably a bit much in this instance.
