Hooker Lake

NIKON Z 7 + NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S @ 50 mm, 1/200 sec at f/11, ISO 64

At the end of a 5km trek you finally arrive at Hooker Lake

This lake is actually a pretty new addition to the valley. It only began to form in the 1970s after the Hooker Glacier began retreating. You can see the leading edge of the glacier at the edge of the lake above my daughter

The lake is glacier fed and sits directly beneath Mt Cook. In winter, the lake can freeze and in summer as it is now you’ll see some icebergs floating on the surface
