Sharp

This is looking straight down right out at the end of Long Reef. If you look closely you’ll see a couple brave fisherman down there fishing off the end of the reef

Long Reef

One from my recent sunrise session at Long Reef on Sydney’s Northern Beaches

I was able to spin the drone up and out over the ocean to take this 180 degree panorama looking back inland over long reef

Slash

by on Oct.24, 2021, under Photography

So it’s almost over and I’m heading back out to where Gerry is

Time for a couple more “quick” takes (I’m not entirely sure you can call it quick when taking minute+ long exposures :))

NIKON Z 7 + NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S @ 31.5 mm, 88 sec at f/8, ISO 64

A touch of remaining high cloud colour provides a slash through the sky. And these platelets of rocks at my feet being washed by the waves provides some interesting foreground interest

Here I’ve just rejoined Gerry and have taken quick stab at the reflections in the wet sand as the waves shoot some water over this little rise on the beach

A Bridge Too Far

by on Oct.23, 2021, under Photography

This is kind of the composition I was originally envisaging before coming here tonight. The intention was to shoot with this longer focal length (around 60-70mm) for a tighter view of just the island and the bridge which leads to it. We’d then have the sun setting behind the bridge/island and hopefully some really nice clouds lighting up the sky behind

Alas in our case all the clouds were up high in the sky at sunset. So all the colour action was occurring way up above where this frame would be (even if shot vertically). My previous vertical frames moments after sunset were at 14mm and still didn’t include all the clouds

So here we are almost 30 minutes after sunset and the cloud colour is mostly gone and I can show you what might have been…

Slanted Reality

by on Oct.22, 2021, under Photography

A horizontal composition near the same spot as the previous vertical compo (and not nearly as good IMHO)

Gerry is a blurry mess over in the right of frame (he’s moving around nicely in this 92 second exposure)

This is 5 minutes after the shot I posted previously but already the cloud colour is fading
