Cockburn Boab
by Rodney Campbell on Sep.03, 2019, under Life, Photography
and finally I found the location I was looking for. I’d been given a somewhat vague description of the location. No GPS co-ords which would have been much more useful :). We missed it on the way in (which is why we ended up at the Pentecost Crossing). But found in on the way back
It’s here -> 15°50’8.705″ S 127°55’12.548″ E BTW 🙂
I was still waiting for sunset and twilight to shoot with my normal landscaping kit. So I fired up the drone for an aerial view
Cockburn Boab
The range doesn’t look all that far away… As it turns out I had to fly the drone around 3km’s away before I reached the face of the closest cliff
This new Occusync 2.0 technology for communicating with the new DJI drones is frankly amazing

Then it was moving towards sunset and the good late light was really starting to hit those west facing cliffs

The Boabs and the Range

This was one of the “additional” detours I had requested for this trip
I’d heard of and seen images taken of a boab tree with the Cockburn range in the background at sunset. Additionally the same location was also used for some very nice astro images (e.g. a milky way arch over the boab)

Unfortunately the location was somewhere down the infamous Gibb River Road. So going there with a road caravan was a definite NO. So we ended up staying again at the Cockburn Rest Area and I drove in car only for an afternoon and evening of shooting

Before Leaving Wyndham

Before leaving Wyndham – I’ll post a couple more images from that amazing location. A whole swag of interesting boab trees out alone in a grassy plain
The image below is looking back from the other side during twilight. The sun has set behind me leaving a purple and pink glow in the sky opposite

Wyndham Watercolours
by Rodney Campbell on Sep.01, 2019, under Life, Photography
This is a sample of some of the amazing abstract watercolour like images. Looking straight down over the mud flats way to the north of Wyndham. I had to fly quite a few kilometers out from the Fiver River Lookout to get to this area. Where mysterious colours and patterns naturally form

The images are essentially straight out of camera – I felt no need to tinker with perfection. Nature really can be quite outstanding at times
In fact if I hadn’t told you what you were looking at you probably wouldn’t have any idea what this was – a watercolour painting perhaps 🙂

Five Rivers Lookout

Our last afternoon in Wyndham so we headed up to the Bastion (the Five Rivers Lookout)
We came here last time we were in Wyndham and the view from here is magnificent

It’s pretty much the only “must do” place to go for tourists when coming to Wyndham
What it does allow me to do is fly over those tasty mud flats to the north and shoot straight down. This was another thing I had recce’d on Google Maps before coming here
